ABOUT MYSELF | ABOUT MY PROCESS

Born in Ottawa, Ohio, Theresa Ellerbrock has lived and worked in New York City since 1974, after graduating with honors from the Cleveland Institute of Art where she received her BFA in Sculpture and Ceramics.

The woven wood sculptures that she created in her Chelsea studio led her to study the process of weaving, which allowed for a more extensive investigation of color and pattern. While developing her art using fiber as the medium, Ellerbrock also began a career designing and weaving prototypes for the fashion industry. The infinite pattern variations and textural combinations of the weaving process began a journey of exploration and discovery that continue to be the creative force behind her work.

According to the New Haven Register review, "Beyond the Material World", "Theresa Ellerbrock integrates the weaving process with an aesthetic that stresses geometric forms and high-toned color, resulting in a delightful merger of surface radiance and structural balance."

Her love of texture has also led her to papermaking, a more spontaneous fiber art. Currently working in both media, Ellerbrock feels that the two processes both inform and balance one another.

Theresa Ellerbrock's work has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the United States.
